My Dad was released from the hospital on Friday evening and was required to have live-in care as he was a fall risk. We contacted Always Best Care of Greater Bristol at 4PM and by 6:30 PM that evening we had Heather Kozikowski Care Coordinator and Donna the caregiver in our living room reviewing the care plan. Our sister, Barbara, has early-onset dementia and was in sudden need of a personal care assistant until placement in a quality skilled nursing facility became available. We reached out to home health care agencies in her local area but, by this point, had already worked with several agencies for med reminders for Barbara (and 24/7 care for our Mom in another area of CT) and were a bit skeptical that that we’d find one that could provide consistent quality of care. When I spoke with Rick Downey of Always Best Care Senior Services in Bristol, he conveyed both confidence in his knowledge of health care and empathy in understanding the frustrations that families experience when seeking quality care for their loved ones. We were next contacted by their care coordinator, Heather Kozikowski, who came to our sister’s home to conduct an assessment and further explain the services offered by Always Best Care. Heather was yet another breath of fresh air that combined professionalism and heart. She made herself completely accessible for any questions and concerns and answered my numerous texts promptly and cheerfully. Heather’s “match-making” instincts were perfect when she selected Margaret Asuo-Mante as our sister’s personal care assistant. Margaret’s bright smile, warmth, and calming presence quickly quelled our sister’s anxiety at their initial introduction and she was able to bond with Margaret within days of their first meeting. When a skilled-nursing facility placement came through for Barbara, there was some confusion as to the last day of services with Always Best Care but the “fix” was seamless. As soon as Heather became aware of the glitch she alerted me of a caregiver change and went straight to Barbara’s home to make sure she transitioned well and that the aide, Susan Maiasics, had everything she needed while on assignment. Susan was yet another godsend. Not only was she wonderful with Barbara, but when there was any downtime she spent it helping us pack up Barbara’s apartment for her move. A further testament to the exceptional quality of Always Best Care is the service and care we’ve received after Barbara is no longer a client. Both Heather and Rick have been prompt in responding to any follow-up questions, Susan has come to visit Barbara in her new home, and Margaret will be doing the same. We plan on circling back again for coverage when our Mom’s 24/7 aide from another agency takes vacation. Our thanks to Always Best Care for the excellent care of our sister, and the peace-of-mind it afforded our family knowing that she was in such kind and competent hands!
